Music Program

Psalm 92:1 (NIV) states: “It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High.”

Our music program includes weekly specials for all of our elementary students. Our young students find music classes very engaging as they learn about the mechanics and movement of music in a fun and interesting way. Through thematic teaching and performance, the students gain appreciation of different styles, instrumentation and ways that they can make, develop skills and enjoy music and the performing arts. Starting in the middle elementary grades, special instruction in playing the recorder as a pre-band instrument is given. This is highlighted by a special performance and field trip to Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Special concerts at Christmas and in the spring also provide joyful outlets and performance experiences for our students, and provide avenues for bringing glory to the Creator and Sustainer of breath, beat and sound.

Piano and sometimes other instrumental lessons are offered to all students in grades 4 through 12 on an additional fee basis. Students taking music lessons at TCA are showcased in a Spring Recital.

TCA also offers a Middle School Chorus, High School Vocal Ensemble, Beginning Band,  Symphonic Band and student-led worship team opportunities. The purpose of these groups is to further develop each student’s potential as a worshiper, performer, and creator of music. These groups endeavor to train students to “play skillfully” and hone musical talents towards excellence through rehearsal, practice and directed instruction. Our active affiliation with DCMEA provides opportunities for our musically gifted students to participate in All-county festivals and NYSSMA.

Through our music program, students learn not only that music performance can bring glory to God, but that even the way we engage in rehearsal is an opportunity to do all things heartily for the Lord and to please him.
